A pledge is a promise toward the cost, not a charge.
Making one
When you ask to join a game, you set your pledge. There's no charge then: if the host accepts, you pay your pledge from inside the game.
Paid and pledged
On the game's bar the solid part is money already paid, and the outline shows pledges. A pledge is only charged when you pay it, so it never confirms a game on its own.
The court isn't held until the game is fully funded, so another booking could still take it.
If you leave before paying
You haven't paid yet, so there's nothing to refund and no penalty. Your spot reopens.
